A fabrication shop provides controlled access to tools, work surfaces, material handling and fitting. New fabricated assemblies, repeat parts and projects requiring multiple fabrication steps are often more efficient in the shop.
Field welding makes sense when the structure, equipment or component cannot reasonably be transported. It is also useful when final fitting, repair or installation must happen in place.
A common approach is to fabricate as much as practical in the shop, then complete final fitting, installation or welding on site. This can combine shop efficiency with field accuracy.
For mobile work, access matters. Explain where the job is located, whether the work is indoors or outdoors, and any limitations around equipment access, operating hours or site requirements.
